Incident:       Gun Shots reported on Devonshire St.  

The Providence Police just contacted The Office of Public Safety and indicated that gun shots had been fired in the area of Devonshire St. at approximately 3:45pm. The Police responded immediately and determined that there are no threats at this time.

The Providence Police are continuing their investigation, and we will provide further updates when informed.

 As always, we remind all students, faculty, and staff to practice the following security measures:   

The Office of Public Safety always advises students to lock and secure all doors and windows to their residence on and off-campus as a preventive measure.

Incident:       Off campus potential gunshots 

Last night (10/24/24), the Office of Public Safety provided a Safety Advisory to the student population regarding a report of potential gunshots being fired in the 100 block of Tyndall Ave at approx. 8:00 pm. At the time of the Advisory, the police had responded, were not able to confirm that shots had been fired and determined that there were no active threats.

An updated police report received by the Office of Public Safety from the Providence Police Department today (10/25/24) included a statement from a witness who reported hearing gun shots and observing a male subject wearing a black hoodie with long hair pointing a firearm towards the ground and then fleeing the area. Police have not been able to locate the subject at this time, but do not believe there is an active threat in the neighborhood. PPD is continuing their investigation.

The College has increased Providence Police details off-campus and Public Safety and Residence Life coverage on-campus for tonight (Friday), Saturday and Sunday. The College has also contacted the neighborhood landlords to request they consider implementing additional safety measures at their properties.

Incident:       Off campus potential gun shots 

The Office of Public Safety was recently made aware of potential gun shots being fired in the 100 block of Tyndall Ave at approx. 8:00 pm. We confirmed that the police responded immediately and determined that there are no threats.

We are working with the Providence Police on this investigation and will provide further updates when necessary.

Incident:      200 Block of Oakland Ave

The Office of Public Safety has been made aware of a burglary and attempted burglary that occurred on Saturday October 5, between 9:00 pm and 9:30 pm in the 200 block of Oakland Ave. The suspect is described as a male subject wearing grey sweatpants and a grey sweatshirt wearing blue surgical gloves on his hands. 

 As always, we remind all students, faculty and staff to practice the following security measures:

Incident:       Burglary Eaton and Oakland Avenue (Updated)

The Providence Police Department has provided the Office of Public Safety with an update on the burglaries that occurred on Eaton St and Oakland Avenue. The suspect is described as a male wearing a dark colored hoodie, pants and a baseball cap.  

At this time, PPD is still investigating this incident and will provide further details when necessary.

 Should a student need additional physical or mental health support, listed below are mental and physical health resources available to students:  

·         The Counseling Center is open Monday-Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Students can stop into the Counseling Center office in lower Bedford Hall or call 865-2343 to make an appointment. There is no waiting list for first-time triage appointments and all first-time appointments include a full assessment. When the Counseling Center is closed, students can call 865-2343 and press option 2 to be connected to the after-hours crisis counselor. You do not need to have already accessed Personal Counseling Center resources to take advantage of this after-hours mental health support. Additionally, check out the additional resources listed on the Counseling Center website. 

·         The Student Health Center is open Monday-Friday between 8:30am-4:30pm in lower Davis Hall. The phone number for the Student Health Center is 401-865-2422. When the Health Center is closed, the campus EMTs can be reached by calling 865-2222.

·         The Chaplains can be reached at 865-2216 during normal business hours and at 401-213-8020 for after-hours support.

·         The Dean of Students Office is readily available to answer questions and concerns related to all student matters. The phone number for the Dean of Students Office during normal business hours is 401-865-1782.
