TYPE OF INCIDENT: Assault
LOCATION: Providence College Campus – Smith Center
DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at 2:30 p.m.
DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECT(S): See Photo


​​​​INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: On Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a male subject walked into the Smith Center, approached a student and asked to enroll for classes. He grabbed her arms, then fled off campus towards the PC Mart on Douglas Avenue. Providence Police are looking for the suspect.

If you see this subject on campus immediately call 911.

SAFETY ADVISORY

November 1, 2019

Today during the early morning hours, a Providence College Student reported to the Office of Public Safety, that when she was returned to this campus, dropped off on Eaton Street via an Uber ride, the driver identified as a male in his 30’s, made inappropriate and lewd comments then touched her, without her consent. The student exited the vehicle and the driver left the campus.

The Office of Public Safety is actively investigating this report and will continue to be vigilant while patrolling the campus. If you have any information regarding this incident please contact the Office of Public Safety.

SAFETY ADVISORY

On Saturday, September 21, 2019, at approximately 3:30am, the Providence Police Department (PPD) responded to Radcliffe Avenue, for a report of gun shots being heard in the area. PPD Officers responded and were unable to locate a specific location or suspects. A blue Ford Crown Victoria and a tan sedan were reported to have been leaving Radcliffe Avenue, towards Eaton Street at the time of the incident.

No one was injured during this incident.

  • Use caution whenever outside late at night.
  • Travel in groups and in well lit areas.
  • Stay away from unknown people and vehicles.
  • Report suspicious activity to the Providence Police Department or the Office of Public Safety.

SAFETY ADVISORY

On September 15, 2019, the Office of Public Safety issued a Timely Warning/Safety Advisory to the campus community regarding a report of a sexual assault. As the Warning indicated, the person assaulted on-campus was not a student at the College and the identity and location of the assailant was unknown.

After further investigation by the Office of Public Safety, we have determined the identity of the assailant and that he is not a student at Providence College. We have taken reasonable steps to keep this individual away from our campus community.

SAFETY ADVISORY

On September 14, 2019, a female non-student reported that she had been sexually assaulted in an on-campus residence hall dorm room, during the early evening hours, by an unknown and unidentified college-aged male, who then left the area.

Trust your instincts. If you feel uneasy with someone or sense something is wrong, do what you can to get out of the situation or call for assistance.

Be active in supporting a safe and respectful community. If you see others engaging in disrespectful or inappropriate actions speak up, get involved or contact someone else to assist.
If you have imminent concerns for your safety or that of others, call the Office of Public Safety on campus or the Providence Police.

On Saturday, August 31, 2019 at approximately 12:15am, a stabbing of an identified non-student occurred close to campus, at the Jamra Hookah Lounge on the corner of Admiral St. and River Ave., near LaSalle Bakery.

An altercation started inside the club and spilled into the parking lot. The suspects fled the area.

This is a reminder to students when travelling in the area around campus after dark, to be vigilant to your surroundings, stay in well-lit areas, travel in groups, and call 911 if you need immediate help. Know your location at all times to give to the 911 operator.


SAFETY ADVISORY

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Felony Armed Robbery and Assault
DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: Thursday, May 9, 2019; 12:33am
LOCATION: Pinehurst Avenue
SUSPECT DESCRIPTION:  1) A possible Hispanic male wearing a grey jacket who may be in possession of a knife and a black face mask. 2) Subject identified as a dark skinned male wearing all black and also may be in possession of a face mask. Both subjects appeared to be in their late teens.
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: Two Providence College students were victims of an attempted robbery and assault while entering their off campus residence. The students were not injured and no property was taken. One suspect was arrested by police. The second suspect is in the process of being identified.

SAFETY ADVISORY

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Felony Assault
DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: Tuesday, January 1, 2019; 12:17am
LOCATION: 212 Oakland Ave, Providence, RI
SUSPECT DESCRIPTION:  Hispanic male, early 20’s, 5’7”, dark hair with ponytail, with thin build wearing black jacket and 2 gold chains
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION:  A house party was taking place at 212 Oakland Ave., (a non-PC house and no PC students were involved), when Providence Police were called for a report of shots fired. Police responded to 212 Oakland and were told that someone had been shot inside the residence, on the first floor. No victim was found at the scene. Later reports identified that the victim, had been driven to the hospital for a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Providence Police are investigating the incident and attempting to locate the shooter.

This advisory is being issued to members of the community because the suspect’s identity and current location are unknown.

Anyone having information is requested to contact the Providence Police Department.

PC students are advised to use caution when attending house parties in the area and walking on city streets. Call 911 immediately if you need help.

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Sexual Assault of Providence College female student
DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: On or about November 18, 2018
LOCATION: Dorm Room of a Providence College male student
SUSPECT DESCRIPTION:  Providence College male student
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION:  A Providence College female student has reported she was the victim of a sexual assault by a Providence College male student.  The incident occurred in the male student’s dorm room.

More specific information about the incident is unavailable at this time.

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Felony Assault
DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: February 28, 2018 – 6:11 p.m.
LOCATION: Dante Street
SUSPECT DESCRIPTION:  Two male subjects, one wearing an unknown color hoodie; the other male wearing an unknown color bandana.
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION:  A Providence College student reported that a male subject displayed a handgun at her on Dante Street, as she was returning to campus.  The student was walking from Walgreens Pharmacy on her way back to campus.  She passed two male subjects at the corner of Douglas Avenue and Ceres Street.  When she passed, they began to follow behind her.  The male subject wearing the hoodie pulled out the handgun from his waistband.

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Assault with Deadly Weapon
DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: Sunday, November 5, 2017; 1:55 A.M.
LOCATION: Oakland Avenue
SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: Not Applicable
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: Police came upon a victim (non-student), of a stabbing on Oakland Avenue. Police later arrested a suspect (non-student) and recovered a knife, after a motor vehicle stop on Douglas Avenue.

Please be vigilant when walking at night, use a buddy system and call 9-1-1 immediately, if you observe any suspicious activity.​​​

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Home Invasion
DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: November 2, 2017; 3:08 a.m.
LOCATION: Pembroke Avenue
SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: Three males wearing ski masks and JWU hooded sweatshirts​​​
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: The Office of Public Safety was informed today from Providence Police Department that a residence on Pembroke Avenue occupied by students from another College was broken into during the early morning hours. One of the three suspects brandished a firearm and yelled “Providence Police.” A resident of the home was able to prevent the suspects from entering the domicile and the suspects ran off.

Be vigilant in securing your residences.

If you observe suspicious activity near your home or encounter anyone attempting to forcible enter your residence – even if they are claiming they are the police, please dial 9-1-1.​

LOCATION: PC Off-Campus Neighborhoods
SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: Attempting to ID any of the three subjects pictured.

INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: The Office of Public Safety was informed today by the PPD that several unwanted guests are entering large parties in the Providence College area. They then blend in with the crowd and steal valuables from residents. On October 15, they were confronted by residents and guests at a residence occupied by students from another college. They physically assaulted their accusers after stealing an iPhone.

DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 1:40 am
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: A non-student reported that at 1:40 am he was robbed at gunpoint. Suspects fled on foot north towards Smith Street.

LOCATION: 23 – 25 Eaton Street, Providence, RI
DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: Saturday, March 18, 2017; 12:28 am
DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECTS(S): Unknown​
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: Providence Police and the Office of Public Safety responded to 23 – 25 Eaton Street for a disturbance at that address involving Providence College students.

While police were attempting to shut down a party, someone (unknown) threw a bottle off the porch in the direction of the police. As a result, a bottle struck a male Providence College student, who was standing outside this address, while police were on the scene.

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Felony Assault (shooting)
LOCATION: Pembroke Avenue, Providence, RI
DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: Sunday, March 19, 2017, at approximately 3:18 am.
DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECTS(S): Short, light skinned male, wearing a white sweatshirt.
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: A male non-PC student, was shot at a large gathering on Pembroke Avenue occupied by PC students. Suspect was seen firing a gun from the back door of the apartment. The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction.

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Burglary
LOCATION: 93 Pinehurst Avenue, 1st floor apartment
DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: February 7, 2017, between 2:30 am and 8:00 am.
DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECT(S): The suspects were not observed
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: Residents of the above address reported that when they awoke this morning they discovered that suspects, unknown to them, had entered the first floor apartment, through the main rear door, which had been left unlocked. While inside of the residence the suspect(s) removed two laptop computers from the common area of the apartment.

HOME SECURITY TIPS:

  • Be sure outdoor lighting illuminates all entrances to your home.
  • Cut back shrubbery to discourage burglars from hiding near window and doors.
  • Keep windows and doors locked at all times. Make certain your garage door is closed and locked.
  • Install a peephole in your front door.
  • Windows and sliding glass doors should be secured with auxiliary locks. Special door pins, available at home improvement stores, can prevent doors from being lifted from their tracks during a burglary attempt.
  • Deadbolt locks should be used on all exteriors doors.

DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 3:25 am
DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECTS(S): Unknown
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: On 01/21/16, at approximately 3:25 a.m., Providence Police were dispatched to the area of Pembroke Avenue and Chad Brown Street for a report of a shooting. Police responded to the basement and observed a male, who is not a Providence College student, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the right hip.

The recent tragedy in Oakland California highlights the dangers associated with buildings being used for purposes that they are not designed or licensed for. To Rhode Islanders, this terrible and preventable tragedy hits very close to home as our state still grieves the victims of The Station nightclub disaster. The Providence Fire Department reminds all citizens, especially our college aged and nightclub-going population to be aware of your surroundings.

Overcrowding, burning of candles or incense, a lack of exits, and lack of a fire alarm system are just a few conditions that can lead to disastrous results in only a few seconds.

Take Responsibility for your own safety. Take a good look for these signs when you’re at a nightclub or a party.

  • ​Can you identify a clear way out? Are there illuminated exit signs?
  • ​​Does the building appear to have a fire alarm system?
  • Do the doors open outward?
  • Do you feel comfortable or is the event over crowded?
  • Are there flame sources such as cigarettes or candles burning?
  • Are pyrotechnics being used? Does anyone responsible appear to be in charge?

​​​​INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: On Friday, November 11, 2016, at approximately 10:30 AM, this office received a report of a larceny from an automobile parked on campus. A review of the PC-CCTV revealed that the suspect later entered Meagher Hall at 10:45 AM and left carrying a dark colored laundry bag over his shoulder. The suspect was seen on camera exiting the campus and is not considered a threat at this time. Three Meagher Hall residents are reporting thefts thus far.

LOCATION: Eaton Street
DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: Monday, October 31, 2016, at approximately at 8:55 pm and 11:00 pm
DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECTS(S): Unknown-Vehicles described as a small blue car and a silver BMW with a loud muffler.
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: Two students reported being struck by paint balls fired from occupants of vehicle in two separate incidents. Eaton Street near Pinehurst and Hilltop near Eaton Street.

CRIME ALERT
